[FULL TEXT of this Appellant’s Brief in Adobe PDF format (4MB)] Friends, [Linked to this document] is the opening appellate brief for Dr. Ronald McIver. This doctor is serving 30 years in Federal prison. The Department of Justice is engaged in a power-grab here, the consequences of which could not be more grave or far reaching. As we watch Lichtblau's excellent coverage of the battle between counsel for the 'terrorists' and the DOJ on the front pages of the NY Times, I marvel that no one is watching our issue with the same concern. In fact, whenever I approach attorneys with the top law firms asking if they would be interested in working on one of these cases pro bono, they always have the same requirement; find them a doctor with no "bad facts" and maybe they will help. For purported terrorists, the principle of the thing appears to be enough. Intelligent people understand that it matters to us all what the government can and cannot get away with. Here, if there is any evidence of a crime, whatsoever, be it trumped up, utterly coerced, whatever, this society cannot be bothered. Even though to ignore it means that cops are telling our doctors how to treat (or rather not to) treat our pain. So here is the doctor with no bad facts. None at all. This is a guy who was convicted of prescribing high doses of pain medicine to people in pain. NOT A CRIME. None of our other doctors actually committed crimes either, but because the government, with their massive advantage and breathtaking disrespect for due process, has concocted cases (such as against Bordeaux, Hurwitz and Rottschafer) with some of the right kind of evidence, we have yet to get a series of articles paying the proper attention to what's going on here. People in pain are being denied care, tortured really, required to prove to the few doctors who might still see them, that they are not addicts. People like you and me. Americans. Millions of American lives are being destroyed. Quietly, at home. -- Siobhan Reynolds, President: Pain Relief Network; http://www/painreliefnetwork.org/ [FULL TEXT of this Appellant’s Brief in Adobe PDF format (4MB)] [END] | |||||||||||||||||
